CHOIRS

5:00 pm Vigil Mass Choir

This choir currently consists of a handful of committed members poised to share their gifts of time and talent at mass. We‟ve found ourselves rehearsing one hour before mass and so, are inviting musicians willing and able to move at a brisk pace as well as prepare individually during the week. Vocalists should feel comfortable singing melodies alone or against one or more harmonies. Reading music and/or singing harmonies are a plus. We are also looking for one or two solo instrumentalists [flutists, violinists, etc.] to lend to our arrangements of all styles of music. If interested, please see Mark after mass and he can share more about this choir‟s vision. Mark can also be reached via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

8:00 am Mass Choir

Our choir is open to all interested singers and musicians. Many of us don‟t read music, so it‟s all about working together. Our young violinist will transfer out of state to college soon, so it‟d be great to welcome new strings players to practice and play with us. We practice occasionally on a Wednesday or Thursday evening, but mostly during the hour before mass (yes, that‟s 7am, so we need "early birds‟!). If you‟re unsure about serving "in front of the congregation", please talk to Glenn about just practicing with us for a few weeks, until you‟re comfortable and ready to pitch in during Mass. Glenn‟s email is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

10:00 am - Parish SATB Choir

Our Parish SATB Choir sings from the Sunday after Labor Day through the Solemnity of Corpus Christi at the 10:00 am Sunday Mass. Rehearsals are held every Thursday evening in the Church from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. The SATB Choir sings both ancient and contemporary sacred polyphony. For music listings for 2010-2011, please see the SATB Schedule and Repertoire Listing for 2010-2011. We welcome all singers, no audition necessary! If you are interested in joining our choir, please contact the Director of Music, Amy Zuberbueler at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

10:00 am – St. Anthony Mary Claret Schola Cantorum

The Schola Cantorum sings the Entrance and Communion Antiphons of the liturgy for the Sunday 10:00 am Mass and most Solemnities and Feasts. The Schola Cantorum is open to all parishioners who would like to sing the beautiful liturgical prayers of the Church in Gregorian chant. Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings (except the third Tuesday of each month) in the church from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.

12:00 pm Mass Choir

The Sunday Noon Choir is full of members of all abilities from budding new musicians to professional music educators. If you‟re looking for a place to share your talent, we are looking for those with prayerful hearts and loving voices to join and continue to build this choir. Practices are every 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at 7:30pm at the Choir Leader‟s home. Instrumentally sound, we are particularly looking for more voices to lead the assembly in it‟s sung prayer. Please contact Martie Kokotajlo at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or visit with her after mass.

Spanish Choir

The Spanish Choir sings every week at the 3:00 pm Spanish Mass. Rehearsals are currently held on Saturdays at the director‟s home.

6:00 pm SAMC Pueri Cantores (High School Youth Choir)

All high-school youth of our parish interested in singing or playing instruments are welcome to join the SAMC Pueri Cantores (High School Youth Choir). Rehearsals are held before the 6 pm Mass every Sunday. For more information visit SAMC Pueri Cantores (High School Youth Choir) Schedule and Repertoire Listing for 2010-2011.

SAMC Chorus Angelorum

The Chorus Angelorum is a parish choir which sings for Funeral liturgies and for weekday Feast Day Masses. If you would like to participate in our parish choirs but have limited time and are available on weekday mornings, this choir is for you! The Chorus Angelorum rehearses the first Thursday of each month from 10 am to noon in the church. For music listings for the 2010-2011 choir year, please see the Chorus Angelorum Schedule and Repertoire Listing for 2010-2011.

SACRED MUSIC

The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy. (Sacrosanctum Concilium, Chapter VI, Article 112, December 1963)

The Council Fathers tell us that sacred music is pre-eminent, above all the other arts, because sacred music IS liturgy. The Sacred Music Ministry at St. Anthony Mary Claret Parish exists to assist the praying congregation in participating in the sacred liturgy by singing THE Mass not just singing AT Mass.

We invite all members of our parish to actively participate in the sacred liturgy by singing the responses in dialogue with the celebrant, and by singing the Ordinary of the Mass, the Lord Have Mercy, Glory to God, Holy, Holy, Holy, and Lamb of God, and by singing the Proper prayers of the Mass as well, the Entrance and Communion Antiphons, Responsorial Psalm, and Alleluia. We also encourage the congregation in singing the hymns.

We also invite interested parishioners, children and adults, to participate in the liturgy by singing in one of our parish CHOIRS. Instrumentalists are also welcome to contact the Director of Music, Amy Zuberbueler at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or at 210-688-7959 for more information on participating in the sacred liturgy.
