3rd Annual Spiritual Adoption: Sept. 2009 to June 2010

Our parish’s Respect Life Ministry invites you to join in this year’s Spiritual Adoption.

Offer this prayer daily for a baby forming in the womb of an unknown mother and for an end to abortion: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much; I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child that I have spiritually adopted, who is in danger of abortion.

During your earthly life, this child which you have adopted will be known only to God, but in the hereafter, you will enjoy each other’s company for all eternity.

Free college money for high school seniors!

Three St. Anthony Claret organizations—the Men’s Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Ladies of St. Anthony—are ready to help. They will offer a few $500 scholarships to deserving high school seniors. Pick up your application in the narthex. And hurry, they must be postmarked on or before March 26!

Daily Offering Prayer for the Holy Father’s Intentions

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, and the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all Apostles of Prayer, and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month.

Annual Drug Awareness Poster Contest

For kids between 8 & 14 years old

Develop an original poster and slogan idea designed to discourage your peers from experimenting with drugs and alcohol. Complete rules and entry forms available in Monsignor Hubertus Hall.

Ladies of St Anthony Mary Claret Monthly Meeting

A variety of topics will be discussed. All members are strongly encouraged to attend and share prayers, lunch, information and fellowship.

Next weekend, the St. Anthony Mary Claret Respect Life Ministry, will have its information table available in the narthex. Stop by for free brochures, bumper stickers and precious feet pins. You can also drop off monetary or baby item donations for our parish’s Gabriel Project, a crisis pregnancy ministry.

Serving our Lord through parish involvement as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, minister of hospitality, lector or altar server is your response to God’s call. Is he beckoning? If so, we invite you to consider saying “yes.” Mandatory training sessions for both current* and new ministers for the following ministries will be held next month as follows:

7 p.m., Wednesday, March 3 – Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

7 p.m., Wednesday, March 10 – Lectors

7 p.m., Wednesday, March 17 – Ministers of Hospitality

10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 20 – Altar Servers (new only)

There is an especially urgent need for individuals to assist with these ministries at the Sunday 3 p.m. Spanish & 6 p.m. Masses.

* IMPORTANT: All current extraordinary ministers of Holy communion, ministers of hospitality and lectors MUST attend this yearly training in order to stay updated.

Call to Lenten Fast & Abstinence

Lent began last Wednesday. The following are guidelines for this penitential season. We are asked to respond voluntarily to the call to penance by undertaking some good works and observing certain penitential practices.

            According to the law of the church, the requirements of fasting affects Catholics who are 18 years and older and in good health and are bound until their 59th birthday. The rule of fasting is that only one full meal a day may be taken. Two small meals “sufficient to maintain strength” are allowed, but together they should not equal a meal.

Abstinence refers to the refraining from the eating of meat. The rule of abstinence binds all Catholics 14 years or older.

            Ash Wednesday and Good Friday should be observed as days of both fast and abstinence and all Lenten Fridays should likewise be observed as days of abstinence.
